Debra Norberg was born in Everett, WA. Her father in the Coast Guard
she spent the better part of her first sixteen years traveling. At the
age of 19 she moved back to Everett where her beloved Grandparents, Aunts,
and the world's greatest Uncle resided. Her parents and 2 younger had moved
inland to Central Idaho and she couldn't be away from saltwater and mountains.
She remembers yearly grade school years spending hours on end creating
works with the proverbial Crayola, always wanting the newest box with more
colors. At the age of 8 a friend gave her Venus colored pencils and she
was hooked. At age I 1 she remembers her father helping her with realistic
drawing tips and pointing out negative space to her. At age 15 it was her
Uncle, Harold Jensen, who encouraged her to follow a dream and give painting
try. This he did by investing in a full spectrum of acrylic paints, myriad
brushes, and canvases.
Basically self taught; from 1984 through 1987 she and her accomplished
sister in-law, Delores, tried to get together for marathon painting sessions
each Friday night. Since 1993 Deb has painted under the tutelage of L.
James Hoffman. Deb has developed a "style of her own". Deb, herself, attributes
this to her resistance to follow anything resembling a recipe.
Two years ago, with much encouragement from her family she entered
2 oil paintings in the Evergreen State Fair and was awarded 5 ribbons.
[Three were for a painting of the Mulkiteo lighthouse for which she also
received
The People's Choice award.]
For the past several years she has been nudged to enter more shows
and to get her work out to the public. With the help and guidance of her
best friend, her other set of eyes and sometimes composition partner, husband
Ray, she hopes to be able to bring to you works you look forward to seeing.
It is her desire that her paintings bring a feeling of warmth mixed
with excitement and yet serenity to viewers. The serenity can usually be
found in the way of an angel or two that manage to find a way into most
of her work.
Debra and Ray have 2 surviving grown children, Aron and Amy. This summer
Amy and husband Marcel will make them proud grandparents for the 3rd time.
