About our Gallery |
Parklane Gallery is Kirkland's only artists' cooperative gallery.
It was established in 1991 by a group of artists who wanted to show and
sell their work in this increasingly fashionable and art minded town.
Parklane Gallery looks forward to further growth and diversification, embracing a wider variety of artistic media and types of creative work. Each of the twenty or so members of Parklane Gallery is an owner of the business. Members include established and emerging painters and sculptors in all media and styles ranging from representational to abstract. Each member was juried by the other members to be initially accepted and pays a monthly fee for wall or floor space. Every month the allotted spaces are rotated, to ensure fairness, and member are encouraged to display new work at these (or any) intervals. Every month Parklane Gallery's front section and street window displays a different featured exhibition. The individual members take turns in this position, or sometimes the feature may be a group show on specific theme. The feature for the month of June is Parklane Gallery's Annual National Juried Miniature Art Show. Membership obligations, in addition to the monthly fee, involve sharing the work at the sales desk as a volunteer and participation in meetings and other functions needed to operate the business. Recognizing that the members have already paid for their exhibition space, only 10% commission is retained by the Gallery on members' sales. Parklane Gallery advertises in the local print and participates in all of the promotional activities of downtown Kirkland, such as Art Walk, and Taste of Kirkland. Each member is assured of display space during Gallery hours and (being an owner) has access to the gallery for private or special showing of his/ her work at any time. In addition to these benefits, the members enjoy the satisfaction of association with fellow artists: a frequent event is an "Art Rap" at which members gather to talk shop, review each others new or unfinished work, and just enjoy professional fellowship. A few memberships in Parklane Gallery are available and any artist interested
in joining this exciting group are invited to apply. For more information,
please call the gallery at (425) 827-1462 and ask for the telephone number
of the Membership Coordinator.
